911 morning

Yesterday as I drove up from Lorne Park I received a call from a potential customer of mine as as we ended the conversation I pulled off the road into a vacant lot to write down his address and phone number. As I hung up I noticed a car had pulled into the vacant lot beside me. This caught me by surprise as there is no real reason to pull into this lot.

As I backed up and drove off I looked closely at the people in the car and realized they were an older couple, somewhat relieved I drove off. As I was exiting the lot I had second thoughts, as something seemed strange so I circled back and asked the lady if they needed any help.

By this time they were out of the car and the man was leaning on his door. The lady replied that even though the man might be mad, that they did need help. I offered to call 911 and she agreed. After calling and getting on the phone with the dispatcher, we were assured that help was on the way. Within a couple of minutes we had two ambulances and a fire truck on the scene.

They immediately put the man into one ambulance, and within a few minutes they were off. The second ambulance took the lady, and I was left there with the firemen.

I thanked them for coming so fast and the fireman asked me if I was with them and after I explained that I wasn't and my role, he thanked me for my good deed.

As I drove away I realized how good I felt that I had helped this couple and I hope everything turned out well. I did not even get their names so I probably will never know......

Outlaw hits to the head in all Hockey

This year we have been seeing more and more some really brutal hits to the head, the most recent on Jason Williams of Detroit.

Two things the NHL should do which will have a trickle down effect on all leagues.

1/ outlaw hits to the head from any direction or circumstance. Simple rule that over time will eliminat those hits where the player takes the elbow or shoulder pad to the face or head with devestating results.

2/ all equipment above the waist e.g. shoulder pads and elbow pads should have pading on outside (as it does on the inside to provide a cushion to the player being hit).

Two simple changes that would reduce or put an end to this type of career and maybe soon life thretening situations.

Tim Hortons Problem

I have like many Canadians frequenty Timmy's on an obsessively frequent basis for years, and have given my order wich started out as a "Medium Regular" evolved to a "Large double double" and is currently a "Large Decaf double cream" on a fathful basis for years.

I am sure I average a tims a day, for the last 5 years (5 x 365 = 1825) which calculates out to more than 1800 cups of coffee, and until recently I have never received the wrong order. Other than occasionally being out of decaf was the only annoyance, and that is usually solved within 5 minutes.

Like most I am usually grabbing my coffee on the go, and behind schedule and therefore frequent the drive thru most of the time.

So here I am after having gone through the drive thru, and a mile or two up the road, opening my coffee and tasing someone elses triple triple or some other overly sweet concoction. Now should I go back? No I can't I need to be someplace, so I chalk it up to a simple mistake and since I have had over 1800 cups in a row without a problem, I forgive them and live without my coffee.

A couple of days later at the same drive thru, same deal a couple of miles up the road, and bam. Same overly sweet and probably non decaf. Now I am more perterbed, and seriously think about going back, but again forgive, and move on.

Everything goes fine after this for a couple of weeks, long enough for me to have forgotten, until same scenario and bam, wrong again. Do I go back? No (chicken?) No, just don't like confrontation. Frustrated? yes...oh....yes, if you would have been with me you would have seen an ugly sight.

What will I do? Go to a competitors? Coffee Time, Country Style? Good luck finding one, never mind with a drive thru.

So from now on I taste it before I drive away. Yes that is me in front of you who you think should have driven away already, carefully tasing my coffee, burning my tongue and holding up the line up.

For now I am stuck, with scalded tongue, addicted to tims, and the drive thru.

And what is with the 1.39 for a large. Can't we round up to 1.40?????

Sometimes life is not fair!

Leaf Season Starts

Yesterday I cut myself shaving and I got blue blood all over my new shirt.

Yes it is time to begin the annual festival of hope usually known as a leaf season.

I truly believe that they have improved themselves in the off season by getting rid of dead weight Belfour, Domi, Berg and have made some solid addition in Peca, Raycroft, and Kubina.

The question as always will be chemistry and the ability to play as a team.

Every one always focuses on the numbers but if they can come together as a team they will reach great heights.

Am I hopeful, you bet!

Am I optomistic, you bet!

Any one know how to get a blue blood stain out of a white shirt?

How will I be remembered?

My good freind Al had a post this week about how his kids would remember him, which reminded me of some wisdom I inherited long ago. I was not sure if I read it or was told by someone, but that periodically you should sit back and imagine how your uelogy would sound if you died that day.

Al mentioned that his friend stated that his dad was an unbelievably selfless guy, who always put the family first. Who wouldn't like to be described that way?

The wisdom I received I have put to use a few times and didn't always like the result. A couple of years ago I was ashamed of how it sounded and it included many of the following:

Put work first, short tempered, always complaining, didn't have time for his kids, motivated by money. OK we all know that Uelogies always include only the good stuff, but they would have had trouble finding the good.

Today I have improved on many, thanks Al for reminding me of this wisdom so I can keep improving.
